Nadelik Lyskerrys

Nadelik Lyskerrys

Friday 1st December 2017
until Saturday 2nd December 2017

Location: Liskeard

Nadelik Lowen

Golden Tree Productions and Liskeard Town Council are celebrating a Cornish Language Christmas this year with Nadelik Lyskerrys.

Local schools and businesses are coming together with the wider community to celebrate Christmas with a feast of Cornish traditions, a Cornish language twist on the popular lantern parade, a vintage fair, carol singing, traditional music and lots more.

It all culminates in a full weekend of activities coinciding with Liskeard Lights Up on Friday 1st and Saturday 2nd December.

Cornish language and carol singing sessions run by Goldentree Productions have been taking place at the Barley Sheaf. Inspired by the local legend of Dando and his Dogs, these sessions will lead to the Helgh Gwyls, a ‘wild hunt’ around the pubs and restaurants of Liskeard on the evening of Friday 1st December starting from The Vintage Fair in the Public Hall.

More singing will be taking place on the train to Looe the next morning with an outing leaving Liskeard station on the 9.58 am and returning at 11.03 am.

Six participating schools around Liskeard have been enjoying Cornish language activities. Pupils are working alongside local artist Sue Field to dress shops around the town with Cornish language inspired decoration.

Children and their families are invited to take part in the Lergh Nadelik, a Christmas trail around the shops and businesses of the town. Christmas stamp cards may be collected from Stuart House from 1pm on Saturday 2nd December. At each stop, children will be asked a simple question and receive a stamp for an answer in Cornish. A completed Christmas stamp card then allows entry into the Christmas Cream Tea Jolly at the Public Hall.

Cornish speakers from all over Cornwall are invited to join in with a series of Pop-up events taking place on the Saturday in partnership with ‘Prag Na?

At 5.30pm on the Saturday, the Liskeard Lights Up Parade will kick off from the Cattle Market Car Park, culminating with the switching on of the Christmas lights.

From 7pm there will be a Gool Nadelik, a Christmas Feast, with Cornish language music and entertainment, food and drink from local businesses and Cornish music and dancing. Tickets for this event can be obtained from goolnadelik.eventbrite.com
