Live cinema

Friday 20th January 2023

Location: Liskerrett

The Kid 1921 plus short.

Good friends of Liskerrett, Wurlitza are a critically acclaimed five piece band from South East Cornwall who specialise in adding live soundtracks to silent films. Their set up includes classical and steel guitars, bass guitar, djembes and drum kit, mixed percussion, keyboards, clarinet and four vocalists. Much more than just a soundtrack, Wurlitza's choeography, split second timing and hours of rehearsal combine to deliver a unique cinematic and musical experence. Each score takes many hundreds of hours to develop before it is performed.

Wurlitza's new offer The Kid was Chaplin's first full-length film as a director and was a huge success, becoming the second-highest grossing film of 1921. Starring alongside his child protégé Jackie Coogan, this funny yet heart-warming film follows Chaplin’s character as a child almost literally falls into his life. Advertised as 'six reeels of joy', The Kid broke all barriers of convention, being the first film to combine dramatic action, a strong storyline and slapstick comedy.

Wurlitza's soundtrack for the Kid includes music by David Bowie, Sham 69, The Beatles, Nick Lowe, Django Reinhardt, Debussy and Chopin.

Doors open at 7pm for a 7.30pm start.

Tickets can be purchased at Liskerrett or online here.
